(Thursday, 1st January 2009) eircom today announced that it continues to deliver on its public commitment to broadband roll out in Ireland. An additional 8 exchanges have been broadband enabled last week alone. In 2008, more than 125 exchanges have been enabled nationwide. As a result, there are now more than 1.4 million working telephone lines in Ireland that can support broadband today.
Commenting Rex Comb, CEO, eircom said "eircom has repeatedly stated its commitment to broadband rollout. We have reached a huge milestone today with the enablement of over 125 new exchanges in 2008 bringing our total to over 680 upgraded exchanges in Ireland. We intend to build on these achievements and continue the momentum behind broadband rollout into 2009."
eircom today also took the opportunity to announce that it has launched a new broadband information website, www.broadbandAtoZ.ie The website has been designed to provide clear, up to date, local information regarding eircom’s broadband roll out activity across the country.
The site not only acts as a resource for broadband information but it also educates key stakeholders and helps to raise and maintain awareness of all of eircom’s broadband initiatives.
The site covers broadband availability and rollout, along with Next Generation Networks. There are number of short videos and interactive maps which are available for download both on a county and constituency basis. There is also a glossary and an FAQ section for those who visit the site. The site also contains the line test checker as well as direct link to eircom.ie for customers who want to order eircom online.
