On Good Friday night Longford Town host highflying Drogheda United at Flancare Park in the Premier Division of the FAI eircom League of Ireland. The night promises huge levels of entertainment on a number of levels. Not only will supporters have the opportunity to see the best that domestic soccer has to offer, they will also have the chance to become involved in the Special Olympics 'Support an Athlete' Campaign. Special Guests on the night will be the Mullingar Shootin' Stars Club. Two of the Shootin' Stars team, Sean Keenan and John Paul Shaw, will be part of the Irish Team travelling to the 2007 Special Olympics World Games in China later this year. Both players are from Co. Longford.
As fans enter the ground they will have the opportunity to donate to a bucket collection for the 'Support an Athlete' campaign. All proceeds from the collection will go towards funding the Irish Team at the World Games as well as expanding the range of services offered to people with a learning disability throughout Ireland on an ongoing basis.
We would encourage all sports people in the region to come along and support a very worthy cause, you're also guaranteed top class entertainment from both eircom League and Special Olympics. The game kicks off at 7.45pm.
