On Saturday, April 14th, Wicklow tanning salons will play their part to help raise €5 million for Special Olympics Ireland. The salons will donate money received from any 'spray tan' booked on the day which will go towards sending TEAM Ireland to Shanghai, China in October for the World Summer Games and will also help support the existing programme which caters for 11,000 athletes, 18,000 volunteers, and 402 clubs. So why not treat yourself and join the county in going brown for Special Olympics on April 14th! Contact your local salon for more details or click here for a list of all participating salons.
Other significant fundraising efforts happening in Wicklow include a County non-uniform day on April 25th whereby students will donate a small sum to wear casual dress or wear their county colours to support the campaign. All schools are being encouraged to participate.
On Friday April 27th 'The Road to China' collection will take place also in aid of TEAM Ireland. Look out for collection points in Bray, Wicklow Town, Baltinglas, Tinahely, Rathdrum, and Arklow, manned by over 50 Special Olympics Volunteers. 'The Road to China' marks the end of the 'Support an Athlete' campaign.
As part of the 'Support an Athlete' campaign, schools, clubs, businesses and voluntary organisations have been invited to run fundraising events for Special Olympics. There has been a fantastic response from everybody in County Wicklow and people have been really keen to get involved and help out.
