Our Facility in Citywest opened for business in September last year. It is a purpose built world-class centre designed to the highest standards and boasts the following features:

Security
Power
Environmentals
Cabling
Networks

To find out more about the facility, view the video clip or alternatively, take the virtual tour.

The facility measuring 30,000 sq ft, is built to the highest environmental specifications. The raised floor is at 900mm from the floor slab, with a clear 3m from raised floor to ceiling. The environmentals include FM200 fire suppression systems and automatic alert notification to the emergency services.

In relation to power, the base load is via a new 10kV ring main constructed in Citywest by the ESB. Plant is designed to accept power from a second source as soon as one is available. UPS systems are designed to provide 100% redundancy. Battery autonomy time is 10 minutes per UPS at full load. In relation to generators the design is N+1, with each individual set fuelled from a day tank, connected to a central fuel supply.

Air conditioning systems and security are designed to Class A standards, and security includes CCTV monitoring internally and externally, 24 hour manned security, biometric scanning and all other elements you would expect in a world-class facility.

Security
The highest level of security has been implemented in the rack areas, which is considered to be the zone of highest importance. Biometric palm sensory access control covers all entry points to rack areas and any unprotected potential paths to rack areas. Outside the rack area access is controlled using Isocards.

All approaches to the buildings are covered by a closed circuit television system (CCTV) which is monitored by our 24x7 security presence. A camera matrix involving a multi-scope digital recorder system has been installed. The system features Video Motion Detection to capture images and record them digitally. Full camera coverage is provided for rack areas. To find out more about security, view the video clip.

Power
Primary backup power in the event of a utility supply failure is provided by a UPS system. The plant electrical infrastructure has been arranged so that customers requiring a redundant supply can be facilitated. UPS is designed to provide 100% redundancy.

The base load power to the site is via a 10.5kV radial circuit, supplied in Citywest by the ESB. The preferred supply criteria for the site is a dual supply. To this end the plant has been designed to accept a second supply when one becomes available. The emergency generating plant supplies power in the event of a utility supply failure. Diesel generators supply base load power to the site within 30 seconds of a utility power failure (the UPS system supplies essential load until generators are operational).

Busbars are arranged so that each rack has access to a normal and an alternate supply.

Generator loading occurs in a sequenced manner. Each UPS is configured to ramp load onto the generator bank in a sequenced fashion. Generators are arranged in an N+1 configuration to allow for any one unit being out of service. Depending on building load, Generators can be configured to provide 100% redundancy (2N). Generation is at 400V, transformed to 10.5kV. Transformers are dry-type.

Power distribution from the UPS to the racks is via custom built, individually specified, 400v distribution panels. Distribution panels supply a network of 160A rated (80A design current (allows for excessive neutral currents)), TP&N, under floor busbar trunking. To find out more about the power system, view the video clip.
Environmentals
All rooms at the eircom facility are protected to IS3218 P1 & BS7273 and associated standards. There are two systems; a house alarm covering general office and circulation areas and a fire suppression system in the Rack Areas. Both systems are analogue addressable. FM200 is used as the extinguishant. All rack, under floor areas, and ceiling voids are covered.

Down flow air re-circulation type computer room air conditioning units are provided for all rack and hosting support areas that require close environmental control. Each unit is capable of stand-alone operation, controlling the environment based on return air conditions to the unit. One standby unit is provided per individual rack area. Sequencing control of the standby unit is provided.

Cabling
The cabling infrastructure for Citywest is based on Avaya (formerly Lucent Technologies) Category 6 GigaSPEED technology. The fibre optic cable is primarily single mode throughout the facility and based on Avaya's "LazrSPEED" technology. All fibre cable runs are installed in an ADC Kentrox fibre tray which runs around the perimeter of each Rack area and is interconnected to allow for diverse routing of the fibre cables. Fibre trays terminate in the Telco room where they are cross patched to the Optical Distribution Frame for connection to the external eircom Network.

Networks
The Facility at Citywest is carrier neutral ensuring that network services can be provided to customers either by eircom, another licensed operator or a combination of both. This provides true network resilience at the carrier level.

The facility in Citywest uses Foundry Network's layer three switches to provide local area connectivity for servers. Within each Customer POD the network connections from servers can be grouped into a single Virtual LAN (VLAN) for segmentation purposes if required. Standalone Ethernet switches can also be provided to connect administrative users and the staging area during the Activation/implementation phase.

Connectivity from a customer POD can be via a fully redundant switched infrastructure and connection to our ISP is over diversely routed high capacity links. This provides a fault tolerant infrastructure to carry data to the Internet. Customised communication solutions using Frame Relay, leased links, Business IP or ISDN can be provided on site.
