How to improve your wireless security?
Wired-Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security is enabled on eircom-supplied Netopia Broadband wireless modems by default. This is the basic level of security on the Netopia modems. There are several other options that can be used to secure and encrypt your wireless signal. However, no wireless system can ever be considered 100% secure and you should keep this in mind.
Please note that you only need to perform one of the steps outlined below. If you do a factory reset of the modem at any time in the future you will need to re-apply these security settings.
Change your WEP key
If you would like to enhance your level of wireless security, eircom recommends that you take the following steps to change your security password (known as your WEP Key):

How to configure WPA
The Netopia modems also support the WPA protocol which provides a higher level of security, but you will need to ensure that your device or Operating System supports WPA before making this change (consult system documentation for your devices to confirm compatibility). It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that they use a suitable level of security to meet their own individual requirements.
Details of how to enable WPA security can be found here.
Not using wireless?
If you are not using wireless access, that is, if you are using an ethernet cable to connect your modem to your computer, eircom recommends that you disable the wireless feature on your modem completely.
